Tank or Cage?
There are many
different views on whether to keep mice in tanks or cages.
Tanks
J:
No mess can be thrown out.
J:
Mice can't fall from climbing up their cage.
L:
Risk of ammonia build up (leading to respiratory illnesses).
L:
Mice are unable to climb.
L:
Unable to fix hammocks etc to walls
Cages
J:
Mice like to climb.
J:
Able to fix things to the walls of the cage, like hammocks etc.
J:
Better ventilation.
L:
Mice can become bar-gnawers.
L:
Easy to escape from.
L:
Poo, bedding and other nasties get thrown out.
In the end, it's down
to personal choice. However make sure if you do opt for a cage that the
bar spacing isn't too wide. Young and small mice can escape incredibly
easily, especially where the door part of wire cages is connected. Once
they escape once, they do it again.. and again.. and again..
